We invite you to participate in CURRENT: LA and join us and our community partner Big City Forum as we explore local Indigenous, and global histories for an afternoon of culture making featuring:
Salvisoul, leading a pop-up Oral Culinary History Recording Room, where you can stop by and share your food memories and recipes to contribute to a digital community archive.
Indigenous Honeys for an interactive storytelling workshop, where participants will be making a zine on cultural foods and their significance in community making. Participants will learn about some Indigenous foods from the territories of the Nunatsiavut Inuit, O’odham Jewed, and the Nahuas.
Masa Mash-up Demo, make connections between Native Latinx/Indigenous foodways and South Asian Indian flatbread – learn how to make corn Tortillas by hand with a local chef along with Chapati bread with Sheila Govindarajan of Rasaveda Healing.
Dancing Diaspora, with Marina Magalhães, enjoy a performance and join in on an interactive workshop exploring Latinx and African Diaspora through movement.
Decolonial Foodways Panel, with our very own chef and scholar Claudia Serrato in conversation with local practitioners.
