Híjole y Café: A SalviSoul Storytelling Workshop

Sale Price: $275.00 Original Price: $335.00

We really are losing our recipes and histories. If you don’t record your family’s recipes and stories, then the whole culture loses them. There is no better time than the present to honor those memories and stories that made you. It can be scary doing the work of documentation alone. I can help!

Why This Matters

Writing workshops hold a sacred place in my heart. They gave me the courage to pursue the type of storytelling I envisioned for The SalviSoul Cookbook. I knew I couldn’t ask others to share their most precious memories without first understanding that intimate process myself. To do otherwise would be, as my mom says, imprudente.

Coming from a journalism background, I was often uncomfortable with how the industry works: the interviewer asks, and the storyteller is expected to give and give—often at a huge emotional cost—while the interviewer has no “skin in the game.”

I wanted SalviSoul to be different. I put myself through writing workshops to learn how to excavate the memories that needed to be said and, ultimately, written down. Now, I want to help you do the same.

The Experience

Through three intimate, 90-minute virtual sessions, we will dive deep into your history. Using the same tools I used to build SalviSoul, we will turn scattered family memories into something that could launch you into something new like it did me.

By the end of this workshop, you will have a finished, written story ready to be shared, gifted, or printed.

  • No “Writer” Title Required: You don’t need a background in English or Journalism or anything culinary.

  • The Only Requirement: A curiosity and a desire to sit with your memories and explore how food has shaped your life.
